A Rose in the Heart of Texas
Madeline Curtis

One evening as
The sun
Went down
And the campfire lured and dimmed
Back in the woods 'neath a big pine tree
There stood a Texan boy and a lovely girl
And as they stood in the pale moonlight
They gazed into each other's eyes
He said to her
"You're the sweetest girl in the whole world
And I love you more than
I can tell And you love me
Don't you?"
And she said
"Yeah A little bit
I guess Oh
Why do you ask me that?"
And he said
"Well Girl
I just wanted to tell you
You remind me of a flower
You remind me of a beautiful rose"
And she said "A rose?"
He said "Yeah
And you know where that rose is?" She said
"No Where?"
He said "In the heart of Texas"
And she said "Oh"
And he sang to her He said
"There's a rose in the heart of Texas
Where the bluebonnets wave in the breeze
And the stars are bright every night
And the world is right for a boy and a girl
There's a rose in the heart of Texas
But it's a rose that only I can see
'Cause the rose in the heart of Texas
Is in the arms of me"
And she said "You just want to hold me"
And he said "No
Baby That's not it
I mean It is it
But it's not all of it See
What I'm trying to say is that This is the perfect night
And I'm the luckiest guy in the world
And you're the most beautiful girl in the world
And you deserve to be treated like a queen
And I just want to make you happy Girl
Because that's what you deserve
And if you just let me
I'll do my best Because you remind me of a flower
You remind me of a beautiful rose" And she said
"A rose?" He said
"Yeah And you know where that rose is?"
She said "No
Where?" He said
"In the heart of Texas" And she said
